Water & Air

This was the first series Sofia created upon returning to her childhood home, after realizing life wasn’t going to work as planned in New York due to consistent seizures.

With the few resources she at the time, Sofia used tea to bake and prep paper, then create pieces using minimalism that speak to the pain of letting go of your dreams, while doing your best to stay alive.

So much of this work took tons of effort to make precise details exact. In the end, this series not only gave her purpose. It reminded her that she still had something beautiful to work towards. She realized she really hadn’t drowned at all, she was simply a butterfly cocooned, waiting to spread her wings with color once again.
